Following the latest ‘dare the community’ i’ve finally hooked up my dirt cheap rtl software radio dongle to the formerly disused ‘masthead amplifier’ on our roof. Here are some english truckers(?) chatting over cb radio. They seem to be talking about one of their mates growing a beard and suggesting they ‘give him a quran’.

I was trying to record some "wind" noises with my mouth by blowing at the mics, when i came to close and my beard started to crackle against them. I liked the soudn and i actually used it later on some stuff - it's not a great quality recordning but it might interest someone. Sorry for the "windy" sounds at the start. . . Recorded with a zoom h4 n.

I know a gentleman who started cutting his kids' hair and just never stopped cutting hair, long past his retirement as a farmer. I've never seen him take a cent for it, and he has friends; so he's never out of practice. You will hear an electric clipper used to taper hair on the back of the neck and to trim sideburns. He does not use a barber's straight-razor, but a small electric razor finishes the job.

My first ever field sound recording, made with diy mic and sony mz-n707 md, sp mode, mic gain set to "low". Tommorow will make some more :). Gilera runner sp50, 50 ccm 2-stroke scooter, with removed factory speed-limiters (some of them are in the exhaust). Mic was positioned maybe and inch above exhaust. At the begining automatic choke is engaged, hence the high idle revs. .

I built it because i could. It is fitted with gliding linear slide carriage bearings, has a counterbalanced offset crank with needle bearings, a jackshaft to drive it from a variable-speed dc motor, and even a variable stroke length (which was tricky). Above all it has something i haven't seen in any of the machines one can buy, a bendable, collapsible coupling that would prevent injury to whomever is on the receiving end of the stroke. Clearly it will never be placed into production as it would cost too much to sell at a typical consumer price level. May all be for nothing because i can't get anyone to let me try it out, and i'm only accepting female applicants from among people i know. It's my machine. Sue me. This file is a 30-second-plus repeat of "v1-reciprocating machine. Wav. " downloading that file and using the repeat feature in audacity will generate any length file you please.

This file is only 2. 6 seconds in length. If you use audacity to repeat it as i did, it will mesh perfectly together to give you any length audio file you want. I did that to produce "v2-reciprocating machine. Wav. ".
